Started in 2022, The Thirsty Giants grew out of lockdown-era, boredom-fuelled, basement jam sessions between a then-teenaged Holden Perron (guitar, vocals) and an older/greyer David Perron (drums). Initially, it began as crude, half-remembered stabs at punk rock touchstones by the likes of Black Flag, The Stooges, Circle Jerks, Rudimentary Peni, Dead Moon, and others, before Holden quickly began writing his own songs. A mixture of those covers and originals was performed publicly on a handful of occasions as a duo over five months before Hunter Thiesen (bass, vocals) joined the group, after Holden’s and his other short-lived garage rock band dissolved. The trio has performed at various venues around Minnesota since. After putting out a series of self-recorded, self-released EPs, live albums, and singles that were captured in varying degrees of questionable sound fidelity, The Thirsty Giants’ first proper full-length, Escape the Junkyard, was released on Round Bale Recordings in May of 2026.
