Simon Joyner is a renowned American singer-songwriter from Omaha, Nebraska. He first came to prominence during the Lo-Fi movement of the early 90's alongside contemporaries mining similar territory like Will Oldham, Barbara Manning, Peter Jefferies, David Berman, and Bill Callahan. Joyner was championed by the late British DJ, John Peel, who famously played Joyner's 1994 LP, The Cowardly Traveller Pays His Toll, in its entirety on one of his BBC programs, an event some journalists called "The Peel Incident." Bright Eyes, Cut Worms, and Lou Turner have covered his songs and Glenn Kotche played drums on his Chicago trilogy (the albums Yesterday, Tomorrow & In Between, The Lousy Dance, and Hotel Lives) before joining Wilco. Following the mercurial path of heroes like Lou Reed, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan, Joyner has continued to release literate and challenging albums at a prolific rate over the course of over three decades without managers, publicists, or major label support. His discography includes 19 proper albums including the new, critically praised, sprawling double album, Tough Love. For the 2026 east coast tour Simon Joyner & the Ghosts includes Jim Schroeder, David Nance, and Mychal Marasco. David Nance is opening most shows with his first major solo tour in over 10 years.
